NBA Street Vol. 2 Review for Xbox
Posted on Wednesday, July 09, 2003 @ 10:03:35 am E.S.T

Do you think you have what it takes to go to the roughest urban worlds and become a basketball street legend? You can find out in the revolution of basketball games, NBA Street Vol. 2. With an all-new arsenal of passes, dribbles, tricks, signature moves, and dunks, we will see what your game is really all about. Lets see if you can take it to the house in this one, without getting swatted back.

Graphics: NBA Street Vol. 2 is made by Electronic Arts, and with that said you know it's going to be easy on the eyes. The different courts are well made, as well as their surroundings. The only thing that no sports game can ever get right is the crowd. They look as they do in all the other sports games. The players do not look realistic, but that's okay because they aren't really meant to look realistic in this game. The graphics overall are very well done.

Design: NBA Street Vol. 2 is a street basketball game, where your goal is ultimately to rule the streets. There are three game modes to choose from including; Pick Up Game, NBA Challenge, and Be a Legend. You can also go to Street School to learn how to play, Create a Baller to create your player, and Create Team to create your own team of course. The 3 game modes each give some kind of reward such as unlocking players, reward points, and developing points. Each of the main game modes also give a trophy upon completion, and you are required to beat all three modes to receive the final trophy when you beat the game.

Pick up game is where you can battle your friends or a CPU. You may create a name, which will hold all your stats from the games that you play. It's kind of fun to see all your points and stats after a few games of playing. When playing a pick up game You may decide to use the Old School Ballers, the NBA Stars, or a regular NBA team from today. You can also unlock a few special teams. If you want tou can also make custom rules while in this mode such as spotting points or turning off shot clock. You can play how you want to play!

NBA Challenge is where you pick an NBA team from today to face other NBA teams. To complete NBA Challenge you must beat all of the NBA teams. The teams are split into different regions, and after these regions are completed you face the best players of the regions. Playing NBA Challenge is how you unlock many of the locked Old School Ballers. Reward points are also received in NBA Challenge mode, so you can purchase rewards from the rewards section.

Be a Legend mode is where you go around to all the major cities playing street ball with NBA players, and the best of the street ballers. You can create your own player for this mode, and use him on your quest to become a NBA Legend. After you beat a team in Be a Legend mode you may choose to take one of there players and add them to your team. Taking one of there players does mean you will have to replace one your players for the trade. Thus you may end up with a team that has Dr. J, Shaq, and your created player. In Be a Legend mode you also get development points for your created player, to make his skills inmprove with better attributes.

Street School is the best way to learn the game. It's a tutorial which also tests you on the moves, to make sure you can do them right. This mode teaches you every from alley-oops to off the heezy. You also need to complete this mode in order to receive one of the three trophies. Once school is out, your ready to unleash on any opponent.

Sound: A soundtrack with many of today’s rappers like Nelly and the St. Lunatics, will make you happy if you like rap. There is nothing better then slamming down a massive dunk when Nelly says, “Get out of my house.” The sounds of players is a small part of the game, but it does sound nice to hear your guy get elbowed or hit the ground. You will also hear sirens to alert those playing that that someone in the game has Gamebreaker. This games sound give it a good overall feel.

Addiction: Playing single player is very addicting. Any type of gamer will get many hours of entertainment from this game because of the need to unlock legend, courts, and more. Playing the multiplayer mode with your friends will give you a ton of more hours of fun. Since your friends will bring out a higher difficulty, more variety, and complexity of moves, you may never stop playing this game. This highly addictive game is definately one of, if not the best sports game for console systems of today.
